WHO AM I ~!

CONFESSIONS : WHO AM I ?

Am  a tendril creeper

Invested within distinct charisma bound

Neither am I a sapper nor a sucker

The mother plant I wound

Am a simple white moss

Flowering beneath rocky boulders

Rendering sad souls some joyous solace

Devoid of fragrance of hi-bred flowers .

Am a tiny country sparrow

Traversing safely in low spaces

Seeking not high skies to soar

A territory where kingly birds race .

Am intrinsically dependant

But never a tiresome burden

Always cherishing in abundant

Lightening leaden hearts to gladden.

MONOLOGUE

 Monologue

All good things come to an end

So the saying goes …

Gnawing Constraints I do have

Somewhere just below the diaphragm

Little above the duodenum.

Mind set immediately resisting

Thought processes rebelling

Refuting support without yielding  .

Cyclic changes a governing rule

Many stubbornly harp like a mule

To you Goddess- Change

Affords pleasurable launch

On a platter waiting to load

To knock  at  door step

Or just  yonder there peep

Rounding  at your street corner .

Don’t you get me wrong

Cos’ I don’t crib or cringe

As I’m seeped in  mine comfy routine

Aligning safely  in its humdrum

Making it incessantly live able.

We stand as opponents

Opposing  not each other

Call it a  delightful euphemism

Capsizing our disparity in diplomacy.

We could be parallel lines

And might run next to next

But hoping to meet

Never in our context .

We are divergent

Willingly dispersing to many points

But ne’er  can in remote dreams

Want to Converge to a point .

We are poles apart

Effectively existing  in our realms

Meant  not to be visible

Nor be  in touch with each other

We can exist as directions

East , west, north , south .

Useful for  mapping

Meant only to be displayed.

So let us stand where we are

Carrying on life

As its means to  give

Live to let live

WHAT ARE YOU ?

WHAT ARE YOU ?

Blow on cooling south west wind

Unnoticed you came on to find

Me lost in hazy paths wild

Picked up to make to build.

Caught  among thorny bushes

You brought me out unscathed

Submerged I lay in dark trenches

You came  and resurrected .

Gullible lamb led on undeterred

False promises of fresh pastures

Dumbly followed villainous wolf in sheep’s gestures

Blissfully unaware being led to be slaughtered .

Standing precarious  on cliff so steep

Staring on lurking dangers right below

Plunged head on held back in time my leap

You must be saving grace sent from above .

RATIOS DIFFER..

Ratios   differ…………

Men  are  born  practical,

Women the weaker sex emotional ,

Oft quoted maxims once thought sensational;

Now incredible clichés ousted as superficial.

Friendship that lasts  through eternity,

Standing test on  sands of time.

A healthy balance if struck in amity,

Revel utterly in  heavenly sublime.

Friends of emotional kind couple,

Like two poles  will repel.

Endless  mopping and lending,

Each others shoulders for venting.

 Friendships running on practicality,

Prove beneficial to Man in actuality ,

Making them  achievers and trend setters ;

Become role models on  success-ladders .

Lovers in unison  lack a certain trance,

If one of the two not in balance.

Life’s course  fragile to the former ,

Losing heartiness to the latter.

Couples after decades cease real living,

Housed  together in years of serfdom .

Hen pecked husbands ruled by petticoat government,

Or head strong men with door mat wives.

In  wedlock if  one out vie the other,

Incompatibility set in weaving ominous web.

Complimenting in an emotive way  fosters,

Like adding spice to life I gather.

Being emotional,  practical as an after thought,

Has much to do with genes to  its  part,

One’s environment experiences have affected;

This  a  matter of contention  often  debated.

WHERE?

WHERE  ?

Gone with the  wind ?

I  search   my kin,

Dear one of my  kind .

Faded as  the puff of smoke

You’ve got  lost  in  a  smog

Like soda  mixed  in a coke? .

As a whiff of   breeze

You brushed  me aside

 Were you on  lease? .

Lightly  dissolved  as  ether

Ethereally  in  the  air

Disappeared  you like a spirit .?

Eyes  a  pair  looks for ever ,

Heart  yearns   brain  cries

 ‘Be   aware’ but I’d never.

NATURE SCHOOLS

NATURE   SCHOOL’S

Striding along  the  beach   aimlessly

Glancing  at  my footprints washed away

Naively  stepped  aside built  sand  houses

Boasting of   my   making   powers .

Flat across the sands  I lay  stretching

Expectations soaring  high and mighty

In smug feeling of  vague  falsity

Duping  myself in to  believing .

Fantasying  permanence that never was

Sojourning in  world  of  imagination

Like  blissfully ignorant country  girl

Exposed  newly to city bred life

Fervently mumbling  sincere ejaculations,

And  as if  strictly adhering   to   decorum

Waters too  refrained   from encroachment

Hours lapsed   eventually  ending joys .

While ebbing  tides had  assisted

Rising     tides    quickly   rushed

Ruthlessly dashing down  my sand house

Salty tears  rolled  onto  salty sea  mingled .

Disappointed , Transience is  Permanent

A lesson  hard  but  well  and  truly  learnt.

AWAKE ARISE .....

‘AWAKE ARISE OR BE  FOREVER  FALLEN’……..

Man awake! shrug off  sleeping

A silent   poison   permeating

Our abode this earth responding

So  get your brains  a cracking

A  mental shake up  wanting

Pay  attention  to  the  calling

Perk up  to  the  global warning

Oh!  The  global  warming.

Arctic  borders thawing

Levels  of  oceans  rising

Glaciers suddenly missing

Tall peaks  now  looking

In  heights  decreasing.

While polar  bears  dying ,

Danger of extinction thwarting.

Earth’s  outer  crust   cracking ,

Unpredictable thunder rains pouring.

Germany ,Siberia   now   experiencing ,

Sunny weather  when it should be snowing.

Delhi  unnaturally   having ,

Extreme  weather  chilling.

While  Kanya kumari’ sea  waters rushing,

Land and habited places encroaching.

Green plants  eventually  start dying ,

Disease , pest , drought resistance lessening,

 Mortality   rate   increasing ,

 Babies  to  diseases circumventing.

Man time up ! for stock taking

 Hurry up !?

shouldn’t we be doing  something? .

OUERIES?

 QUERIES??

‘Over again I feel thy finger and find thee…

Our hearts are made for you oh God and they shall not rest until they rest in  you’ …..G. M. Hopkins .

I’d  know  you  among  scores   of   people

But  you  might  not  notice .

I’d  pick  you  out from   lakhs  in  a  gathering

                   You   might   never   know

I’d    be  standing    next  to    you

                 You’d   be  blissfully   unaware

I’d  be  taking  care  of   you

But  you’d  take  me for granted

I’d  wait  for   you  to  thank  me

               But  you  would  have  forgotten

I’ d     be     waiting    at     your    doorstep

But   you’d   be   busy   over  nothings

I ‘d be wanting  you to  peep  in  and  see me

But you’d have eyes   for  other things

I’d   be   wishing  you  to  talk  to  me

But you ‘d be lost in your small talk???!!!!!>…..

                                        God   asking   man….

God yearns for man

Not just when we are in want

Cause we will always be in want

But  otherwise  too.

He is waiting ….

When we pass a temple ,mosque ,or church

Do we step into say hello ……

Not at festival times mind you ..

Other inconspicuous days ….

He is waiting ……

Do we see God in less fortunate brethren …?

Looking for God in high places ….

We’d be disappointed

For He is found among the lowly ….

He is waiting…

INCOMPREHENSIBLE JOY

Incomprehensible joy

I  feel I’m on top of the world

Heaven seems at my doorstep entwirled

Earth as though in memory slipped

Like spring top it doubled and swirled

Green meadows glow  before my eyes

Trees afresh sway gently at my glance

Flowers  bloom  in   sprightly   dance

In jocund procession the butterflies and the bees .

Nature within echoes in gladness afore

Rollicking in tune to the outer nature

Exultant I drew  in fresh spurts of  air

Surfeiting I want no more .

God’s goodness in extensions I see

In every little thing his loving hand

Playing hide and seek game in time with me

In perfect symphony to his timelessness .

ELEGY TO MY STUDENT

    ELEGY –TO  MY STUDENT

I was asked to handle as a stop gap for the Geography teacher who was away on leave . It was then that I  met this rather bright student full of impetuosity and a face as clear and  full of  the milk of human kindness.

On the whole for a week I had just two classes so was particular that not a minute should be wasted . I had told them from the outset this particular expectation of mine  was because  un like English classes which had seven hours in a week Geography had just two.

My first entry in to this class, I must tell you was absolutely different . I was greeted by   this  boy Kapil Vyas with   a reverence that was hither to conspicuously  absent in others . An interesting boy I must  say cause his fair smart face not just reflected an outside look but also had mirrored  equally  by a   well  and  true  goodness matching within . His pleasant mannerism definitely attracted not only his class mates but also was able to win all for even the surliest  tempered couldnot help breaking  in to smiles.

You might think what made this boy of seventh grade to stand out among the crowd? . The first and foremost was his stance as he entered the class .He would lock his hands  in reverence to be excused and this strangely reminded me of the Gurukula system of education  where in the disciples sit obediently at the feet of the guru’s for their lessons like   the one in Shanthiniketan  kind .

What impressed me was his thoughtfulness beyond his age .  Teachers have our own share of woes you’d admit and as I had said  I had  not much time  with  this class made me to lose patience when I find that class  runs short of chalk pieces or the duster not being  proper .

I  remember the first time I asked for a chalk the class leader had  to run down to the ground floor to pick up chalk pieces from the office room which would take a clear  five minutes . I had the tendency to imbibe in these children the importance of time . so I would say ‘’your class has wasted three hundred seconds of my period ‘’.

This was made note of , by Kapil and every time I’d turn to the class leader to question then on there would he jump up like jack in the box handing over from his pockets chalk pieces kept ready for me . when asked he’d say he bought it in a shop or had picked up a few from the office room as he  came up from the morning assembly. Mind you he did n’t do it just for me but for the other teachers too especially for maths and science .

His  casual remark that  ‘’three hundred seconds  not  being lost’’ punning on my words  would immediately make me to mellow down in to a smile and the class leader would feel relieved that she had escaped the brunt of the punishment.

Yet another marked characteristic feature in him was when  he finds the teacher slightly tired he would offer water from his water bottle . I usually and  politely refuse since no un due preferences be shown to students .However I couldn’t help   calling  him   after class    to   appreciate his gesture.

He  would    volunteer    to   help   teachers   with carrying of books,  wish them where ever and when ever he sees them, etc and I must say I’ve not noticed him sloppy or tired or lazy   but would always carry about himself with a liveliness that would remain with him even at the end of the day .

He finished schooling in a different school and due to his family situation went to work in an electrical shop as early as sixteen years . The heart rending news I heard has shaken me to the core was during  the rainy season  he had met with an accident due to short
